The fort dates back to the 9th century and is a three-round fort built using massive pebble bricks following the natural contours of the hills. Each round has a grand entrance with defense chambers on both sides. Within the fort are temples, a ruined palace and other structures. At the tip of Durga is a small temple called Shikhareshwar or Srikantheshwar facing the Arabian Sea.
