Kavaledurga is a corruption of Kavalu Durga. Kavaledurga is a historical place in the hilly region of Karnataka, which was famous as Nagarakhand Banavasi Naad in the history of Karnataka. and was once an important stronghold in various historical periods. The fort dates back to the 9th century and is a three-round fort built using massive pebble bricks following the natural contours of the hills. Each round has a grand entrance with defense chambers on both sides. Within the fort are temples, a ruined palace and other structures. At the tip of Durga is a small temple called Shikhareshwar or Srikantheshwar facing the Arabian Sea.

The fort is situated on a steep hill and requires a moderate trek to reach its summit.
