S V Parameshwar Bhat
S. V. Parameshwara Bhat was born on 18th February 1914 at Malur in Thirthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district. His father was Sadashivararaya and his mother was Lakshmamma.
He did his primary and secondary education in a village called Tuduru. Belonged to high school in Thirthahalli. Kamagodu Narasimha Shastri was his teacher. Studied Intermediate College, Bangalore. After college studies in Mysore B.A. Honors and M.A. degree
Started teaching career at Mysore Maharaja College. Worked in Shimoga and Tumkur colleges and returned to Mysore. Later transfer to Mangalore. In 1969, Mangala Gangotri became the director of the Institute of Kannada Studies.
‘Ragini’, a collection of 27 songs published in 1940, was the first poetic work. Later published 11 poetry collections. 2 Vocabulary works; Book of Proverbs and Riddles-3; 7 critical texts like Seelunota, Akkamahadevi, Bhavagita etc. He infused humor in poetry through humorous expletives. He has translated more than 30 works. Most of it is translated from Sanskrit. Kalidasa’s complete works have been translated in ‘Kalidasa Mahasamputa’. He has composed 5 other works like Kannada and Nanu, Aravatara Aralu.
S V Parameshwar Bhat has won Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Prize, Chairmanship of Chikkamagaluru District Literary Conference, State Sahitya Akademi Award, Rajyotsava Award, Central Sahitya Akademi Award, Honorary Membership of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, K.S.P.D. Received Chavundaraya Award, Muliya Thimmappayya Award.
