Ambuthirtha

Ambuthirtha is a holy place in Thirthahalli of Shivamogga district. It is about 18 km from Thirthahalli. This area is the source of river Sharavati.

Ambuthirtha Kshetra, the river Sharavati originates near the feet of Lord Shiva in the Shiva temple here and flows into a tributary there, then flows into Guptagamini and becomes a river through Hosanagar Sagar Sirsi Gerusoppa, then joins with many tributaries and flows for about 128 km and joins the Arabian Sea.

Ambuthirtha is a historical place where Rama along with Sita was said to have stayed here during his forest abode in the Treta Yuga. At that time it is like Tirthodbhavavaita when an arrow is left on the ground in order to have the required water for their daily worship, thirst quenching and other activities. This tirtha is known as Ambu tirtha as it is formed when an arrow or arrow is shot. It seems that this river got its name Sharavati because it was born from Sri Rama’s shara.

Thirthahalli is surrounded by beautiful natural spots including waterfalls, forests and hills, making it a favorite destination for nature lovers and trekkers. The serene atmosphere and pleasant climate of this region attracts tourists from different parts of the country.
